Repara tu Deuda Abogados, a leading law firm in Spain in the processing of the Second Chance Law, has achieved a new debt cancellation in Catalonia. The Court of First Instance No. 3 of Cerdanyola del Vallès (Barcelona) has granted a benefit of exemption from unpaid liabilities (Bepi) in the case of a woman who had accumulated a debt of €108,206, which she could not afford to pay. According to Repara tu Deuda’s lawyers, «the discharged person turned to us distressed by the situation she was in. She had reached a situation of over-indebtedness caused by the reduction of her income. For this reason, she entrusted her case to us to be freed and start over from scratch». Spain was one of the countries in our environment that took the longest time to incorporate the Second Chance Law into its system, a system envisaged for the cancellation of the debts of individuals and self-employed people so that they would not be dragged down for life by payments they would not be able to assume. It came into force in 2015, a year after the recommendation made by the European Commission.
