Schaeffler is set to introduce its highly efficient in-wheel electric motors to the production lines of three manufacturers of small municipal vehicles in the coming months. The motors will be integrated into the design of street sweepers, vans and snowplows to create zero-emissions vehicles that will improve air quality in cities. The motors are completely silent and reduce noise pollution in urban areas, making it easier for these vehicles to operate in residential areas. The motors make the vehicles more agile and manoeuvrable in city traffic by allowing the necessary components for propulsion and braking to be integrated directly into the wheel rim, rather than centrally or mounted on a motor axle.
