Fersay, a Spanish company specialized in the market of spare parts and accessories for home appliances and electronic devices, has presented a report highlighting a 10% growth in the demand for repair parts in different Spanish communities. The company offers the option of sending the replacement to the customer’s home within 24-48 hours or delivering it to the nearest Fersay store for just €1.90 in shipping costs. This has resulted in a 10% increase in sales towards end users. The service in Portugal is the same as in Spain and they also receive orders from end-users throughout Southern Europe.
After more than two years in force of the current Guarantees Law approved by the Spanish Government and promoted by the European Union, the objective of promoting durability and sustainability of products and improving the environment by facilitating the repair of appliances to users has been achieved. With the new law, the legal guarantee for durable products increases from 2 to 3 years, and manufacturers are now required to maintain repair parts for 10 years from when the product is no longer manufactured. In addition, the period for the consumer to demonstrate product non-conformity is extended from 2 to 3 years, and if a product under warranty is defective, the consumer can have it repaired, replaced with a new one, request a price reduction or cancel the contract. These changes are important for consumers and manufacturers of electronic and household appliances.
Noelia Carrasco, Marketing Director of Fersay, explained that these data confirm the situation of the repair sector as an opportunity for job creation and self-employment, as well as greater profitability for sector companies. «And lastly, but almost the most important, it is a unique opportunity to provide security to the consumer and reduce excessive consumerism that affects the environment so negatively,» she added.
In the 15 Fersay stores and in the company’s more than 70 corners, more than 140,000 repair parts for all types of home electronics (a stock of 11 million parts) are offered, as well as a wide variety of Small Household Appliance (SHA) in white, brown and own-brand lines.
