El cantante trans Hugo Marlo actúa en Institut Marquès para reivindicar la diversidad familiar

Hugo Marlo, a 23-year-old trans man, gained fame in Spain in the second edition of the television program «Got Talent» at the end of 2022. However, his popularity began six years earlier when he won the children’s edition of the competition, «Got Talent Junior,» where he participated under his former name. As an adult, with his new name and his new voice, he triumphed in «The Voice» and «Got Talent,» becoming a reference for many trans people.

Institut Marquès, a renowned Reproductive Medicine clinic, launched its Rainbow Fertility Barcelona project in 2019 to help LGBTQ+ people form families. Hugo Marlo chose them to vitrify his eggs and thus preserve his fertility with the goal of having children later on. He wanted to get involved in the Rainbow Fertility Barcelona project by participating in a new concert for embryos that becomes a claim for family diversity in honor of the «International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia» celebrated on May 17.

At its Barcelona center, Institut Marquès has already held several live concerts in its In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) laboratory, with singers such as Antonio Orozco, Álex Ubago, or Sharon Corr. These events are part of the work carried out by Institut Marquès about the benefits of music in embryonic and fetal development.

On this occasion, Hugo Marlo’s performance takes place under the rainbow colors that Rainbow Fertility Barcelona flaunts and before the hundreds of embryos that develop in the incubators of Institut Marquès’ laboratory. The concert was also broadcast live for the center’s IVF laboratory in Rome. «Performing before embryos has been a magical experience. This concert is a way to draw attention so that all trans people know that they can consider having children if they preserve their eggs or sperm. After having undergone hormonal treatment and mastectomy, I believed that it would be very complicated to form a family. I have discovered that I was very mistaken. There are many false myths and a lot of misinformation about the subject,» explains the artist.

The singer has performed two of his most well-known songs: «No me llames más así,» a song from his first album that reveals his inner world and is a whole declaration of intent, and his new song «Mil voltes.»
