José Manuel Olea, CEO of Renovalia, presented the new photovoltaic plant installed on the ‘El Bonal’ estate in Puertollano (Ciudad Real) on Wednesday. The plant has been operational for a year with a capacity of 79 megawatts, and Olea also announced the construction of a similar plant in the province of Guadalajara. With a total of 130 megawatts installed in Puertollano, the company aims to turn Puertollano into the «energy hub of Spain» and serves as a showcase of Renovalia’s commitment to Castilla-La Mancha. The Puertollano plant occupies about 100 hectares with an investment of around 40 million euros, avoiding the annual emission of 21,000 tonnes of CO2 while producing the equivalent of the consumption of 37,000 households annually. During its construction, over 300 people were employed, mainly from the Puertollano region. The new plant in Guadalajara will have a capacity of 126 megawatts. José Luis Escudero, the Counsellor for Sustainable Development, announced that the Junta de Comunidades has sent the information required by the State on 105 projects of electricity production installations. With a total capacity of 4,500 megawatts, this is considered a «very good news for Castilla-La Mancha.»
