During the session, developed under participatory dynamics, strengths were identified as well as areas for improvement in oncological-hematological care. Thus, among the most valued aspects are the closeness and professionalism of the healthcare team, the good coordination between services and the sensitivity of the staff towards continuous improvement, pointing out important opportunities for collaboration in patient support.
Among the main proposals that emerged from the team’s work are the promotion of activities such as self-care and shared reading workshops, music therapy, the incorporation of mutual support groups among patients, group therapies for family members, and stress reduction programs for professionals.
For its part, the Spanish Association Against Cancer could strengthen its presence in the health center through specialized volunteers who accompany those patients who do not have family members, in addition to conducting oncological aesthetics workshops and training in emotional communication and psychosocial skills.
Juan Pablo Rodríguez has highlighted «the need to integrate family members into the care process, as well as to reinforce communication and cooperation between the hospital and the AECC. All this will be reflected in the next agreement to be signed between the healthcare institution and the association.»
This initiative is framed within the Humanization Plan of the Universitary Hospital Complex of Toledo, a strategy focused on improving the quality of life of patients and healthcare personnel through active listening, empathy, and participation.
The Humanization Plan of the public healthcare system of Castilla-La Mancha constitutes one of the fundamental pillars of the healthcare policy designed by the regional government to offer comprehensive and person-centered care at all times.
